Please read about the following proposed changes to the 2020-2021 YHS PTA budget. We will discuss and vote on the budget at our September 14 PTA meeting at 7pm via Zoom.

You will see some decreases in our spending expectations, due to the lack of in-person events, at least for the fall. We also would like to note a couple of other increases, as well, which we believe make sense in the current situation:

  • We have added a $500 line item for dues scholarships for teachers and parents for whom paying dues might cause financial difficulty. Our goal is to include every teacher, staff member, and parent — every voice in our community is important — and this line item will help to make sure that money is not an obstacle for membership for anyone this year.
  • We also have increased the Board’s Discretionary line item significantly, to $5,000, to cover any situations/needs/additional program or teacher grant costs, etc., that might emerge later due to the unusual Covid-19/distance learning situation.

YHS PTA Dues Scholarship Policy:

For the 2020-21 school year, the Yorktown High School PTA, recognizing the financial hardship caused by the Covid-19 situation and its ramifications, will offer free scholarships for full dues payment as a line-item in our general budget, for both teachers and parents who request it via our membership form.

YHS PTA dues help to pay for valuable programs, grants, and events provided by the YHS PTA, that contribute meaningfully to our community (see partial list below).** So we appreciate both dues and additional donations from all for whom it’s financially comfortable. But we value all of the members of the YHS community, and we want to offer both a warm invitation to anyone suffering financial hardship and our assurance that their voices are important in our PTA.

This policy draft will be presented for a vote at the YHS PTA’s first 2020-21 meeting, on September 14, 2020, and will become PTA policy if ratified by a two-thirds majority of those voting.

We welcome your comments and hope our efforts will meet with your approval. We also look forward to seeing you at our September 14 virtual meeting to discuss and vote!
